Delightful Dingboche

I am so happy to be back in this delightful little village that’s nestled in the mountains just above 14,000 ft. It is home to one of the best bakeries ever ~ The French Bakery Cafe. I say that, and I’m not even typically a pastries kinda gal, so it must be good! We arrived yesterday afternoon following another day of maneuvering rocky trails and uneven stairs in the rain. It required cautious steps and keen attention to ensure no silly mishaps took place.

For the first time in my climbing pursuits, my most prized (and utilized) piece of equipment has been an umbrella. Go figure!

But the bright side is that after five long days of hiking in the rain, I woke this morning to magnificent clear skies with a nice, dry, crisp feel to the air. I am very excited for the day ahead and our acclimation hike that will take us up to our highest point yet. We will adventure above Dingboche and enjoy snacks at approximately 16,800 ft.

I think it’s a good time for those following to meet our fabulous team! Dubbed Team Poppins by a witty team member from Wales (as in Mary Poppins and her trusty umbrella). We have a very diverse group from around the world. Starting with the States, we have father and daughter, Eric and Kate, from Oregon, experiencing their first big climb together. Also from Oregon is their friend and climbing partner, Peter. We have three French Canadians from Montreal~ a husband-and-wife duo, Sebastian and Allison, and my roomie, Julie. From New Zealand, we have Killian (originally from Ireland) and Daniel (the witty Welshman). And last but certainly not least, we have Nat, who is originally from Russia but now living and working in Kazakhstan. Together we make a newfound family of ten. There is such lively conversation and lots of laughter at every meal.

I am not sure when my next post will be possible, but I am certain it will be from higher ground. So until then, the dance will continue :-)
